Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Museum studies, Native American Studies, History, Education, Cultural Resource Management or related field.
  • Knowledge of Dakota history, culture traditions, and values required.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in cultural center, educational institution, tribal government, community engagement organization, or related environment.
  • 7+ years of leadership experience leading teams, budgets, programs and strategic initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong public speaking, presentation, and facilitation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a long-term strategic vision for Hocokata Ti that advances Dakota culture, history, language, and traditions.
  • Oversee exhibits, collections, programs, and visitor experiences to ensure quality and impact.
  • Engage with schools, researchers, and community partners to expand educational opportunities.
  • Lead staff, budgeting, marketing, and operations to sustain a vibrant cultural center.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to promote programs, events, and partnerships.
  • Monitor performance, budgets, and program outcomes to drive continuous improvement.
