Job summary

The University of Missouri-Columbia's College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for the Department Chair of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery. The chair leads academic, research, clinical, and outreach activities within a large, 320-employee department.

We seek an accomplished academic leader with a DVM or PhD, a record of scholarship, and a collaborative style to advance education, patient care, and translational research across the college and university.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated understanding of veterinary academic medicine, including teaching, research, and clinical service.
• Strong leadership and administrative capabilities in a complex academic unit.
• Ability to recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty and oversee programs.

Responsibilities

• Strategic leadership: set departmental goals aligned with college priorities.
• Faculty oversight: recruit, mentor, evaluate TT/NTT faculty; oversee promotions.
• Academic programs: ensure quality DVM, graduate, and continuing education programs.
• Research support: foster scholarly activity and fund innovations.
• Fiscal management: manage budget and staffing with Hospital Operations.
