*Responsibilities*

While this position provides virtual patient companion services to the patients of CommonSpirit Health across the United States, this position must work on-site at our Phoenix AZ Virtual Hospital located at 3033 N. 3rd Avenue.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for monitoring patients identified as being at high risk of falling, elopement, illicit drug/alcohol use, disorientation/dementia, pulling out lines/tubes, and other concerns. The Patient Companion observes patients in multiple facilities across the U.S., using live streaming video to ensure safety and appropriate interaction with the environment at all times.

Work Requires

• Ability to recognize signs of agitation, impulsiveness, pulling lines/tubes, and illicit substance use
• Capacity to follow protocols and communicate effectively with staff and patients
• Reporting and escalating patient safety concerns appropriately
• Knowledge of or ability to learn relevant procedures, equipment, and terminology

An Incumbent

• Monitors patients via video and telecommunication tools
• Follows communication protocols and participates in quality initiatives

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain continuous surveillance of assigned patients and initiate communication as needed
• Report issues like camera disruptions or patient behavior changes promptly
• Notify care staff of urgent situations and document observations and actions accurately
• Maintain professionalism and effective working relationships

*Qualifications*

Required

• High School diploma or equivalent and 3 years recent patient care experience OR completion of fundamentals of nursing and clinical practice in RN school

Preferred

• Current healthcare certification/license or enrollment in a healthcare program

*Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge*

• Ability to learn and operate streaming video equipment and hospital systems
• Ability to observe and respond to patient needs, troubleshoot technical issues, and document actions accurately
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Completion of competency training as a Virtual Companion
