Job summary

Greater Commonwealth Virtual School seeks a Middle School Special Education Teacher to provide high-quality, specially designed instruction in a fully virtual environment. This role focuses on implementing IEPs, fostering an inclusive online classroom, and ensuring equitable access to the curriculum.

You will collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and families to support student growth, wellness, and academic achievement.

Qualifications

• Massachusetts DESE license in Special Education (Moderate Disabilities PreK-8 or 5-12).
• 3–5 years of teaching experience preferred with special education focus.
• Ability to quickly learn and navigate virtual platforms (Schoology, eSped, PowerSchool, Google Suite).
• Physical ability to operate a computer for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Deliver specially designed instruction aligned with Massachusetts frameworks.
• Draft, implement, and monitor IEPs with measurable goals and quarterly progress reports.
• Facilitate annual IEP meetings and contribute to three-year re-evaluations.
• Modify and adapt general education digital modules for accessibility.
• Use data-driven instruction to adjust teaching based on performance and assessments.
• Promote belonging in a remote setting using district-approved platforms.
• Engage students facing barriers to participation in a virtual environment.
• Collaborate with GCVS staff to co-teach in inclusive settings.
• Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians about milestones and challenges.
• Participate in Massachusetts Educator Evaluation Framework and ongoing professional development.
