Job summary

Duke Health is seeking a Financial Care Counselor to provide financial navigation and patient access support for international, executive, VIP, and high-profile patient populations.

Serve as a trusted resource to patients, families, sponsors, embassies, insurers, and clinical teams by facilitating financial clearance, authorization, registration, and payment processes while delivering an exceptional service experience.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required.
• Basic grammar and math knowledge expected; some postsecondary education preferred.
• Two years in hospital service access, clinical service access, or billing and collections; or related degrees with experience.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate financial clearance, insurance verification, sponsorship review, and authorization activities.
• Guide patients through registration, financial counseling, payment arrangements, and billing processes.
• Manage domestic and international payment arrangements: self-pay, sponsored, managed care, and governmental funding.
• Ensure accurate patient demographic, financial, sponsorship, and insurance data in electronic systems.
• Deliver concierge-level service for high-profile and international patients with discretion.
• Show cultural awareness and sensitivity for diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
• Apply critical thinking to address financial, access, and care coordination challenges.
• Examine insurance policies and third-party sponsorship materials for payment sources.
• Explain policies, procedures, and resolve problems.
