Rosie’s House in Phoenix is seeking a part-time Violin Instructor to teach group violin classes in its Afterschool Program for students in grades 3-12. Classes follow Suzuki-inspired pedagogy and focus on violin fundamentals to foster a supportive learning environment.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of teaching experience and fingerprint clearance. The position includes Thursday 4:00pm-7:00pm group sessions, with extra hours for training and events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years teaching experience, or 6 years equivalent youth development experience.
  • Fingerprint clearance card (or ability to obtain one).
  • Arizona Teaching Certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach group violin classes for students in grades 3-12.
  • Create lesson plans and supplemental materials as needed.
  • Evaluate and report on student progress.
  • Collaborate with strings faculty for large group performances.
  • Prepare students for concerts and recitals.
  • Attend faculty meetings and school events.

Position Type: Non-Exempt/Part-time status

Salary: $60/hour

Hours: 3 hours weekly

Location: 919 E. Jefferson St., Phoenix, AZ

POSITION SUMMARY

Rosie's House, one of the nation’s largest free music education non-profits, seeks a Violin Instructor for its Afterschool Program to teach violin group classes. Violin group classes are available for students in grades 3-12, and students are grouped by their grade levels. They focus on violin fundamentals and incorporate methods from Suzuki. Violin group class is an entry level class for students to begin their journey in music, and it is structured to foster a positive environment for social bonding.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teach group violin classes for students in grades 3-12
  • Create lesson plans and supplement materials as needed
  • Evaluate and report on the progress of students
  • Collaborate with other strings faculty for large group performances
  • Prepare students for concerts and recital performances
  • Attend faculty meetings and special school events
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
  • Thorough knowledge of violin performance and pedagogy
  • Experience teaching and evaluating students in grades K-12 consistently over 2+ years, with proven results in their learning and musical development
  • Ability to identify and meet students’ diverse learning needs
  • Commitment to respectful, compassionate, and active communication with students, families, colleagues, and staff
  • Passion for transforming lives through high-quality music education
WEEKLY SCHEDULE
  • Thursday 4:00pm-7:00pm, Group Classes (3)
  • Start date is August 17th
  • Some additional hours required for training, special projects, and events
SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR (32 LESSON WEEKS)
  • Fall Semester (2026), August 17th – December 16th
    • Labor Day (holiday) September 7th
    • Thanksgiving Break, November 23rd – 28th
    • Winter Break, December 17th – January 3rd
  • Spring Semester (2027), January 4th – May 5th
    • Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday, January 18th
    • Spring Break, March 8th – 14th
EDUCATION AND REQUIREMENTS
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years teaching experience, or 6 years equivalent youth development experience
  • Fingerprint clearance card (or ability to obtain one)
Preferred
  • Arizona Teaching Certification
