Job summary

ATI Specialty Materials in Monroe, NC seeks a highly motivated VIM Process Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. You will work on the Vacuum Induction Melting line, collaborating with Operations and Engineering to improve melt quality, furnace performance, and process documentation.

You'll gain hands-on experience with nickel melting tech, thermodynamics, and chemical modeling, while contributing to data-driven process improvements and SOP development on the shop floor.

Qualifications

• B.S. or graduate candidate in materials-related engineering fields.
• Strong interest in thermo-mechanical processing of metals.
• Familiarity with data analysis tools for manufacturing settings.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Operations to create visual quality metrics on the VIM shop floor.
• Update the VIM Can-Up MIS to optimize elemental addition sequencing.
• Conduct refractory trials and document furnace liner health for reliability.
• Analyze process data to improve melt quality and consistency.
• Help develop standard operating procedures for VIM processes.
• Collaborate with Operations and Engineering to explore process conditions and solutions.
