Job summary

The North Slope Borough Fire Department is seeking a senior fire operations professional to command fire, rescue, and EMS operations within a village community. You will supervise responders, train officers, and oversee equipment readiness and safety programs.

You will also conduct pre-fire planning and inspections, assist investigations, and report to the Borough leadership, while engaging with the community through education and public safety initiatives.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
• Three years of paid or volunteer arctic firefighting experience.
• One year of supervisory work experience.
• Alaska Firefighter I certification or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
• EMT I certification or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
• Fire Service Instructor certification or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
• Valid Alaska Driver's License meeting Borough requirements.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Incident Commander for fire, rescue, and ambulance operations in a village community.
• Recruit, train, equip, lead, and appoint officers and team leaders; ensure readiness and accountability.
• Supervise emergency responders in the village.
• Coordinate weekly/monthly apparatus checks for department staff.
• Maintain fire station, equipment, and inventory; ensure readiness.
• Perform fire safety inspections and assist with investigations as requested.
• Submit required documents and reports.
• Provide public fire information, education, and safety programs.
• Present monthly reports at local city council meetings.
