Job summary

North Slope Borough is seeking a regular member of the Fire Department to respond to emergencies, perform firefighting, rescue and emergency medical duties, and oversee EMS operations in the absence of the Village Fire Chief.

Position requires established Alaska certifications (BLS, ETT, ARF), driving license, and several years of arctic firefighter experience with supervisory exposure. The role includes training oversight, equipment management and HIPAA compliance responsibilities.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED or equivalent with related experience.
• Alaska Driver's License meeting NSB insurance criteria.
• American Heart Association BLS certification or Alaska EMS equivalent.
• Emergency Trauma Technician certification.
• Alaska Rural Firefighter Operations certification or equivalent.
• ICS 100/200/700/800 training.
• Ability to obtain BLS Instructor certification within six months.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergencies and perform firefighting, rescue and EMS duties.
• Operate, inspect and maintain firefighting and medical equipment and facilities.
• Maintain training and certification requirements through ongoing education.
• Coordinate refilling of breathing air and oxygen cylinders.
• Oversee EMS operations and advise leadership as needed.
• Review patient care and incident reports for QA purposes.
• Assist with department training and ensure lesson plans are followed.
• Ensure apparatus checks and inventory records are up to date.
• Serve as HIPAA compliance officer and coordinate annual trainings.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
