Job summary

The Atlantic is seeking a skilled producer to join our video podcast team in Washington, DC. You will help lead production of Galaxy Brain with Charlie Warzel, identifying compelling ideas and coordinating with the host and editors to craft sharp episodes.

You’ll oversee end-to-end production, from pre- through post-production, manage recording sessions and lighting, and ensure consistent video and audio quality across episodes while collaborating with legal, art, audience, and fact-check teams.

Qualifications

• Proven experience working in journalism.
• Proven experience in video production and editing (preferably in podcasting).
• Proficiency in taping and editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro and Riverside for remote podcasting.
• Strong understanding of lighting, audio, and camera operation for high-quality video production.
• Outstanding editorial judgment and strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Track record of producing high-quality work under tight deadlines with creative problem solving.
• Creativity to push the show and video podcast format forward with fresh ideas.
• Familiarity with YouTube and podcast distribution platforms.
• Motion graphics and animation experience preferred.
• Ability to edit and enhance video content with graphics and transitions.

Responsibilities

• Work with the host and supervising producer to maintain editorial excellence and shepherd ideas through the creative process by pitching show topics and guests, and acting as the point person for pre-interviews, booking, and tech setup.
• Oversee end-to-end production of the show, from pre- to post-production, including: hone ideas, structure episodes, and draft scripts; ensure best tape and sound quality; manage post production and deliver sharp first drafts on tight deadlines; cut rough drafts in Premiere with appropriate tone and pacing.
• Manage the show’s production calendar.
• Collaborate with teams across The Atlantic (legal, art, audience, copy desk, story editors, fact checkers) to ensure high-quality standards.
• Coordinate and manage all recording sessions with proper lighting, audio, and camera setup for smooth recording experiences.
• Ensure consistency in visual and audio quality across all episodes.
• Collaborate with audience team to create video clips for social media.
• Upload episodes to video and audio platforms.
