Our client, a publicly traded company, is looking for a Vice President of Technical Accounting to lead its accounting policy and technical reporting. This senior role works closely with the finance leadership team, external auditors, and the audit committee. It's a great fit for a hands-on technical leader who enjoys working through complex transactions and wants a visible role in a sophisticated public company environment.
Responsibilities
- Own the company's accounting policies, making sure they stay current with US GAAP and SEC requirements.
- Research, document, and conclude on complex accounting matters, including acquisitions and dispositions, leases, joint ventures and consolidation, impairment, development cost capitalization, and debt and equity transactions.
- Write clear technical accounting memos and position papers, and present conclusions to senior leadership and external auditors.
- Oversee or support SEC reporting, including Forms 10-K and 10-Q, earnings materials, and non-GAAP measures.
- Monitor new and proposed accounting standards and SEC guidance, assess their impact, and lead implementation.
- Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors on technical matters and support the audit and quarterly review process.
- Partner with deal, legal, tax, and treasury teams early in transactions to shape structuring and anticipate accounting outcomes.
- Maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting related to technical accounting and policy, in line with SOX.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting; active CPA license required.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including time at a Big 4 or national public accounting firm.
- Significant experience with SEC registrants, including technical accounting and external reporting.
- Real estate or financial services industry experience strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to write concise, well-supported technical memos and defend positions with auditors.
- Excellent communicator, comfortable presenting to senior executives and audit committees.
- Collaborative, detail-oriented leader who can balance hands-on work with strategic oversight.
