Job summary

Primary Recruiting Services seeks a Lead, Technical Accounting Research to guide complex accounting analyses and arbitrage recommendations. You will supervise two accounting professionals and collaborate with senior leadership and external auditors to finalize positions on debt, M&A, revenue recognition, and impairment matters.

Applicants should bring 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, strong US GAAP knowledge, and the ability to translate technical guidance into practical business

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and researching complex accounting matters.
• Experience evaluating complex or nonroutine transactions and documenting conclusions.
• Technical accounting experience in debt, M&A, goodwill impairment, revenue recognition, or new standards.
• Ability to independently lead projects and reach well-supported conclusions.
• Experience working with senior leadership, cross-functional partners, and external auditors.
• Demonstrated ability to coach and develop accounting professionals.

Responsibilities

• Lead the organization’s technical accounting research function and manage two accounting professionals.
• Research complex transactions involving debt, acquisitions, revenue recognition, goodwill impairment, and evolving matters.
• Prepare technical accounting memoranda, position papers, and recommendations for senior leadership and external auditors.
• Partner with accounting, finance, FP&A, Treasury, Tax, Legal, SEC Reporting, and business-unit leadership to determine appropriate accounting treatments.
• Advise business leaders on accounting considerations before transactions are finalized or executed.
• Balance recurring compliance responsibilities with new, project-based accounting questions across the organization.
• Reevaluate existing accounting conclusions, policies, reporting units, and impairment considerations as conditions change.
• Monitor new accounting standards and coordinate their implementation across the organization.
• Develop and deliver training on accounting policies, new standards, and complex topics.
• Support quarterly and annual financial reporting activities as needed.
• Coach and develop team members while remaining hands-on with technical research and project execution.

Job description

• Research complex and unusual transactions involving debt, acquisitions, revenue recognition, goodwill impairment, and other evolving accounting matters
• Prepare technical accounting memoranda, position papers, and recommendations for review by senior leadership and external auditors
• Partner with accounting, finance, FP&A, Treasury, Tax, Legal, SEC Reporting, and business-unit leadership to determine the appropriate accounting treatment for new transactions and initiatives
• Advise business leaders on accounting considerations before transactions are finalized or executed

What We’re Looking For:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and experience researching complex accounting matters
• Experience evaluating complex or nonroutine transactions and documenting conclusions in technical accounting memoranda
• Technical accounting experience involving areas such as debt, M&A, goodwill impairment, revenue recognition, or new accounting standards
• Ability to independently lead projects and reach well-supported conclusions without significant oversight
• Experience working directly with senior leadership, cross-functional business partners, and external auditors
• Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop accounting professionals
• Strong writing, communication, analytical, and organizational skills
• Ability to manage ambiguity, balance multiple projects, and translate technical guidance into practical business recommendations

Preferred Qualifications:

• Big 4 or national public accounting firm experience
• Experience working for or advising a publicly traded company
• Exposure to SEC reporting and public-company accounting requirements
• Experience researching debt transactions, acquisition accounting, goodwill impairment, and other complex transactions
• Familiarity with Workiva, PeopleSoft, or similar accounting and reporting platforms
• Experience using AI tools, including Microsoft Copilot, to improve research, documentation, or accounting processes
• A hands-on leadership style and the ability to build productive relationships across accounting, finance, legal, tax, treasury, and business-unit leadership
