Are you ready to be part of a company that's not just talking about the future, but energetically shaping it? Join the Microvast Team (NASDAQ: MVST), a technology innovator that designs, develops and manufactures lithium-ion battery solutions. Founded in 2006 and headquartered in Stafford, TX, Microvast is renowned for its cutting-edge cell technology and its vertical integration capabilities which extend from core battery chemistry (cathode, anode, electrolyte, and separator) to battery packs. By integrating the process from raw material to system assembly, Microvast has developed a family of products covering a broad breadth of market applications. More information can be found on the corporate website: www.microvast.com
Microvast is seeking a highly experienced Vice President of Global Business Development to join the Microvast team reporting to Chief Revenue Officeer. The VP of Global Business Development is responsible for continuously creating Microvast's future revenue opportunities and ensuring that the Sales organization receives an adequate flow of commercially qualified opportunities. The role opens new markets and customer relationships, develops opportunities before formal sourcing begins, shapes customer requirements, creates strategic partnerships and protects long-range business development from being displaced by urgent sales activity.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Future Pipeline and Backlog Creation
- Build and maintain a diversified strategic opportunity pipeline capable of supporting Microvast's revenue and booking objectives 12 to 36 months or more ahead.
- Identify future pipeline gaps by product, geography, application, customer and expected award year, and propose corrective actions to the CRO.
- Protect continuous opportunity creation even when Sales is heavily occupied with active RFQs, negotiations and contract closing.
- Develop a balanced portfolio that reduces dependence on any single customer, program, geography or market segment.
2. New Market and Customer Development
- Identify and prioritize new markets, applications, customers, channels and strategic programs that fit Microvast's technology, capacity and profitability objectives.
- Develop market-entry and strategic-account penetration plans with measurable milestones, executive sponsors and expected opportunity timing.
- Open relationships with customer executives, engineering leaders, fleet operators, integrators, government stakeholders and other market influencers.
- Create access to decision-makers before formal sourcing decisions or RFQs are issued.
3. Early Opportunity Development
- Discover customer problems, technical requirements, future platforms, investment plans, sourcing strategies and decision processes.
- Coordinate early technical workshops, capability presentations and application discussions with Product Management and Engineering.
- Help shape customer specifications and value criteria so Microvast's differentiated capabilities are properly recognized.
- Develop preliminary opportunity scope, expected volume, timing, competitive position and commercial potential.
4. Opportunity Qualification and Sales Handoff
- Apply CRO-approved qualification standards before transferring an opportunity to Global Sales.
- Confirm, to the extent reasonably available, the named project or application, technical fit, preliminary volume, decision-makers, purchasing path, timing, competition and next commercial action.
- Submit qualified opportunities through CRM and require Sales acceptance, rejection or requested follow-up within the established service period.
- Remain the opportunity originator and relationship sponsor after handoff while allowing the named Sales Opportunity Owner to control quotation, forecast, negotiation and closing.
5. Strategic Partnerships and Ecosystem Development
- Identify and develop alliances with OEMs, system integrators, technology providers, distributors, financing partners and other strategic participants.
- Evaluate joint-development, co-marketing, channel, localization and market-access opportunities in collaboration with Legal, Finance and the relevant operating functions.
- Define the strategic rationale, expected revenue pathway, obligations, risks and governance for each proposed partnership.
- Avoid commitments concerning exclusivity, intellectual property, pricing, capacity or investment without required internal approval.
6. Market and Competitive Intelligence
- Monitor customer investment plans, market growth, competitors, pricing trends, regulations, incentives, localization requirements and technology shifts.
- Translate market intelligence into specific account actions, product requirements and business-development priorities.
- Provide early warnings regarding changing sourcing strategies, competitive displacement, market contraction or emerging applications.
- Create a structured feedback loop to the CRO, Product Marketing, Product Management, Engineering and R&D.
7. Cross-Functional Commercial Development
- Coordinate early opportunities with Global Sales, OEM Management, Product Marketing, Engineering, Operations, Finance and Legal.
- Confirm that proposed opportunities have a credible path to technical qualification, manufacturing readiness, acceptable margin and customer support.
- Support named strategic OEM accounts when entering a new division, geography or application while respecting the VP OEM Management's account ownership.
- Assist Sales during major negotiations when executive relationships, market context or partnership structure materially improves the closing strategy.
8. Governance, Forecasting and CRM Discipline
- Maintain complete, current and evidence‑based strategic pipeline records in CRM, including stage, value, timing, probability, customer contacts, next action and risks.
- Distinguish early strategic pipeline from qualified Sales pipeline and contracted backlog to prevent double counting.
- Conduct monthly portfolio reviews and remove or reclassify opportunities that lack evidence, activity or commercial credibility.
- Ensure every opportunity has one Account Owner, one Opportunity Owner and one official forecast after Sales acceptance.
- Build, coach and manage a globally coordinated Business Development organization with clear geographic and market responsibilities.
- Set activity, quality and pipeline objectives that reward future opportunity creation rather than only near‑term revenue.
- Develop succession plans, customer networks, account knowledge and repeatable market‑development practices.
- Promote integrity, disciplined follow‑through, customer curiosity, global collaboration and fact‑based opportunity assessment.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, marketing, finance or a related discipline required; MBA or other relevant advanced degree preferred.
Experience
- Twelve or more years of progressive global business‑development, strategic‑sales, market‑development or commercial experience.
- At least five years leading teams, regions, markets or strategic‑growth programs in a technically complex B2B environment.
- Demonstrated success opening new accounts, developing pre‑RFQ opportunities and creating qualified pipeline that converts into significant bookings.
- Experience in batteries, automotive OEMs, commercial vehicles, energy storage, industrial technology or another advanced manufacturing sector strongly preferred.
- Experience developing opportunities across the United States, Europe and Asia or other major international markets is preferred.
Business and Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of long‑cycle B2B and OEM buying processes, account mapping, stakeholder development, sourcing, qualification and RFQ preparation.
- Ability to understand battery‑cell, module, pack and system capabilities sufficiently to identify product‑market fit and conduct credible early customer discussions.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing economics, market sizing, competitive analysis, partnership structures, localization and commercial risk.
