Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Act as a strategic business partner to develop and lead HR in organizational performance, succession, change, recruitment and employee relations.
  • Advise senior leadership on human capital matters and culture impact.
  • Develop an innovative HR function aligned with the organization’s mission.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for HR programs, ensuring current, competitive and compliant policies.
  • Implement HR initiatives that communicate and support the organization’s vision.
  • Collaborate with HRBPs and leaders to maintain and revise employee policies; participate in policy committees.
  • Serve as liaison with WVU Medicine HR Shared Services for high-quality HR services.
  • Monitor HR indicators and address deficiencies to support the organization.
  • Establish credibility as a trusted listener and problem solver on people issues.
  • Provide consultancy, advice and coaching to employees; support leaders to drive performance.
  • Lead change management plans to meet evolving organizational needs.
  • Support system-wide HRBP, Employee Relations and HR Policy committee.

Job description

The Vice President, Human Resources provides executive level leadership and is a strategic business partner that promotes and implements the organizations core values and mission through strategic planning and management of human resources programs; responsible for developing and executing human capital strategy; maintains strong relationships with leadership teams and internal customers. Responsible for developing a philosophy for managing the human resource function to reflect best practices in alignment with the WVU Medicine organizational mission.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE
  • 1. Bachelor’s degree in human resources, industrial relations, business administration, or related field required. Master’s preferred.
EXPERIENCE
  • 1. 12-15 years of Human Resources experience with at least 7-10 years of prior leadership/people management experience required.
  • 2. Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations and rulings of governmental agencies including but not limited to FLSA, EEO, OSHA, Unemployment and Workers’ Compensation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE
  • 1. Professional Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification and/or SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP certification desirable and preferred.
EXPERIENCE
  • 1. Prior experience and knowledge of Joint Commission and other regulatory standards in the healthcare industry preferred. Prior experience in Healthcare with an emphasis on strategic HR business partner relationships preferred.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • 1. Acts as a strategic business partner that develops and leads the Human Resources team in the areas of organizational and performance management, succession planning, change management, recruitment and employee relations.
  • 2. Serve as an advisor to the senior leadership team and a strategic advisor on human capital matters and their impact on organizational culture.
  • 3. Assess, inspire and develop an HR team to create an innovative HR function that supports the organization.
  • 4. Provide leadership and oversight for HR programs and policies, ensuring that they are current, competitive, within financial constraints, and in compliance with legal requirements.
  • 5. Establishes and implements HR initiatives that effectively communicate and support the organization’s vision and strategic plan.
  • 6. Partners with key personnel and HR business partners and HR leaders to create, maintain and revise employee policies and participates in the WVUHS System-wide HR policy committee to represent the hospital.
  • 7. Functions as a strategic business partner to the leadership teams regarding key organizational and strategic issues.
  • 8. Acts as a liaison with WVU Medicine HR Shared Services to deliver the highest quality of HR services.
  • 9. Monitor human resources indicators to identify problem areas and make recommendations to address deficiencies that will help better support the organization.
  • 10. Establishes credibility throughout the organization as an effective listener and problem solver of people issues
  • 11. Provides consultancy, advice and coaching to all employees of the company; partners with leaders to effectively support, propose and lead initiatives that embrace a culture of high performance and drive success.
  • 12. Implement change management plans to meet the continually changing needs of the organization.
  • 13. Supports the system-wide HRBP, Employee Relations and HR Policy committee.
