  • Provide leadership to HR teams and collaborate with HR partners to achieve goals.
  • Coordinate with WVU Health System Shared Services for high-quality services.
  • Guide managers on complex employee relations issues and risk management.
  • Oversee annual HR department budget and cost controls.
  • Support mergers and acquisitions integration into WVUHS.
  • Lead change-management initiatives to meet evolving organizational needs.

Job description

The Director, Human Resources develops and leads the HumanResources team in the areas of organizational and performance management and assists the Physician Executives of WVU Medicine Practice Plans (University Health Associates and System Medical Group) in succession planning, change management, and employeerelations by implementing WVU Health System’s vision for humanresources and optimizing team performance. The Directorcollaborates with the Physician Executives to develop a philosophyfor managing the human resource function for physicians andadvanced practice providers to reflect best practices in alignmentwith WVU Health System’s organizational mission. The Directorprovides leadership and oversight to a team of HR professionals andarticulates Human Resources needs and plans to the executivemanagement and leadership teams for the WVU Medicine PracticePlans, known as WVUHS Medical Group (“SMG”) and University HealthAssociates (“UHA”).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
  1. 1. Bachelor’s degree in human resources, industrial relations,business administration, organizational development or relatedfield required.
EXPERIENCE:
  1. 1. Eight (8) years of Human Resources professional experience withat least 5-7 years of prior leadership/people management experiencerequired.
  2. 2. Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations and rulings ofgovernmental agencies including but not limited to FLSA, EEO, OSHA,Unemployment and Workers’ Compensation.
  3. 3. Knowledge of the dual-employment relationship and WVU policiesfor practice plan members that are also faculty of West VirginiaUniversity.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
  1. 1. Master’s degree in human resources, industrial relations,business administration, or related field preferred.
  2. 2. Professional Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional inHuman Resources (SPHR) certification and/or SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCPcertification desirable and preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
  1. 1. Prior experience and knowledge of Joint Commission and otherregulatory standards in the healthcare industry. Prior experiencein healthcare or physician practice plans.
  2. 2. Prior experience and knowledge of professional boardregulations, professional licensing standards, and medical staffaffairs, including hospital credentialing and privileging.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. 1. Lead the development of service-oriented Human Resourcesstrategies and programs in support of the overall business plan andstrategic direction of the organization.
  2. 2. Collaborate with the CHRO of WVU Medicine and leadership of theWVU Medicine Practice Plans to develop HR plans and strategies thatensure the organization can achieve business objectives and supportlong-term strategy and goals.
  3. 3. Collaborate with Physician Executives to develop strategies forimproving the workplace through engagement and retention programs.Measure outcomes of programs in business terms to support programinvestments.
  4. 4. Serve as an advisor to the senior leadership team and astrategic advisor on human capital matters and their impact onorganizational culture.
  5. 5. Assess, inspire and develop an HR team to create an innovativeHR function that supports the organization.
  6. 6. Provide leadership and oversight for HR programs and policies,ensuring that they are current, competitive, within financialconstraints, and in compliance with legal requirements.
  7. 7. Work directly with Human Resources Business Partners and HREmployee Relations staff in the creation and achievement ofstrategic goals and risk management for the organization. Drivesprojects to completion.
  8. 8. Oversee the development of the annual operating budget for theHR Department.
  9. 9. Provide leadership, direction, evaluation and support to the HRDepartment to discover creative ways to deliver services, achieveeconomies of scale and incorporate best practices into thedepartment operations.
  10. 10. Acts as a liaison with (a) WVU Health System HR Shared Servicesto deliver the highest quality of HR services for SMG providers and(b) West Virginia University’s HR Department for providers who aredually-employed by UHA and WVU.
  11. 11. Works closely with staff to assist them in defining andachieving their operational and management goals and performanceobjectives.
  12. 12. Guide managers and senior leaders on complex employee relationsmatters for staff.
  13. 13. Monitor human resources indicators to identify problem areasand make recommendations to address deficiencies that will helpbetter support the organization.
  14. 14. Implement change management plans to meet the continuallychanging needs of the organization.
  15. 15. Assist with the on-boarding of newly hired or promoted seniorleaders and directors.
  16. 16. Support mergers and acquisitions into WVUHS.
