Job summary

West Virginia University Health System is seeking a Vice President of Human Resources to provide executive leadership and serve as a strategic business partner across the organization. The role focuses on developing a people strategy, shaping culture, and aligning HR initiatives with the system's mission.

The ideal candidate has extensive HR leadership experience, deep regulatory knowledge, and the ability to drive change across a complex healthcare environment.

Qualifications

  • 12-15 years of HR experience with at least 7-10 years in leadership roles.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws (FLSA, EEO, OSHA, Unemployment, Workers’ Compensation).
  • PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification desirable and preferred.
  • Prior experience with Joint Commission and healthcare regulatory standards preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a strategic business partner to lead the HR team in organizational performance and succession planning.
  • Advise senior leadership on human capital and organizational culture.
  • Develop and implement HR initiatives aligned with the system's vision and plan.
  • Provide leadership for HR programs, policies, and compliance within financial constraints.
  • Collaborate with HR business partners to revise policies and participate in system-wide policy committees.
  • Deliver high-quality HR services in partnership with WVU Medicine HR Shared Services.
  • Monitor HR metrics and address deficiencies to support the organization.
  • Coach and consult with employees and leaders to drive high performance.
  • Lead change management efforts to adapt to evolving organizational needs.
  • Support system-wide HRBP, Employee Relations, and HR Policy committees.

Bachelor’s degree in human resources, industrial relations, business administration, or related field required. Master’s preferred.**EXPERIENCE:**1. 12-15 years of Human Resources experience with at least 7-10 years of prior leadership/people management experience required.2. Partners with key personnel and HR business partners and HR leaders to create, maintain and revise employee policies and participates in the WVUHS System-wide HR policy committee to represent the hospital.7. Functions as a strategic business partner to the leadership teams regarding key organizational and strategic issues.8. Acts as a liaison with WVU Medicine HR Shared Services to deliver the highest quality of HR services.9. Monitor human resources indicators to identify problem areas and make recommendations to address deficiencies that will help better support the organization.10. Establishes credibility throughout the organization as an effective listener and problem solver of people issues11. Provides consultancy, advice and coaching to all employees of the company; partners with leaders to effectively support, propose and lead initiatives that embrace a culture of high performance and drive success.12. Implement change management plans to meet the continually changing needs of the organization.13.
