Job description

Equalient is an independent registered investment advisory firm focused on alternative investments. We are developing in-house alternative funds. Our core business is serving high-net-worth individuals and select clients in the sports and entertainment sector. We provide access to differentiated investment opportunities, with a particular focus on private markets and alternative investments.

Our investment activities span venture capital, growth equity, private equity, private credit, and select special situations. We work with investment sponsors, founders, institutional investors, and other market participants to identify, evaluate, structure, and execute investments on behalf of our clients.

As we expand our private investment capabilities, we are seeking an experienced investment professional to play a central role in transaction evaluation, execution, and the continued development of our investment platform.

The Opportunity

The Vice President / Director, Private Investments will be responsible for leading the underwriting, due diligence, structuring, and execution of private-market investments across multiple asset classes.

This is a senior, hands‑on role for an investment professional who has progressed beyond an analyst or associate position and has substantial experience managing transactions from initial evaluation through closing.

The successful candidate will work directly with Equalient’s senior leadership, exercise substantial independence, and contribute to both investment decisions and the firm’s long-term development.

While investment analysis and execution will be the primary responsibilities, the position also requires the ability to engage confidently and professionally with sports and entertainment clients, business managers, and other trusted advisors. The successful candidate must be equally comfortable analyzing a complex transaction and explaining its merits and risks to accredited investors.

As the business grows, this position offers the opportunity to recruit, develop, and lead a team of investment professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the evaluation of private investment opportunities across venture capital, growth equity, private equity, private credit, commercial real estate, and special situations.
  • Develop and review financial models, valuations, investment return scenarios, and transaction structures.
  • Assess company fundamentals, competitive positioning, management teams, market opportunities, and investment risks.
  • Prepare investment memoranda and recommendations for internal review and investment decision-making.
  • Evaluate transaction economics, capitalization structures, preferred securities, and investor rights.
  • Manage investment transactions from initial evaluation through closing.
  • Lead and coordinate financial, legal, commercial, and operational due diligence.
  • Work with external counsel, accountants, sponsors, and counterparties on transaction documentation and negotiations.
  • Review term sheets, purchase agreements, operating agreements, and other transaction documents in coordination with legal counsel.
  • Manage transaction timelines, deliverables, and closing processes.
Client and Professional Relationships
  • Participate in client meetings and investment discussions, presenting opportunities, analyses, and recommendations clearly and confidently.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable and trusted representative of Equalient in interactions with clients and their professional advisors.
  • Communicate complex investment concepts in a manner appropriate for accredited investors.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion when working with high-profile clients and confidential financial information.
  • Represent the firm independently in appropriate client and professional interactions.
Investment Management and Platform Development
  • Monitor existing investments, including company performance, valuations, financing developments, and potential liquidity events.
  • Develop relationships with investment sponsors, private equity and venture capital firms, investment banks, and other market participants.
  • Contribute to investment sourcing and the development of new opportunities.
  • Help establish scalable investment processes, underwriting standards, and reporting capabilities.
  • Participate in strategic initiatives supporting the growth of Equalient’s private investment business.
  • As the business expands, help recruit, mentor, and manage additional investment professionals.
Qualifications (Required)
  • Approximately 7–12+ years of relevant professional experience, including substantial experience in investment banking, private equity, growth equity, or a comparable principal investing environment.
  • Prior experience at the Vice President level or equivalent, with demonstrated responsibility for managing transactions.
  • Proven ability to independently lead complex financial analysis, valuation, due diligence, and transaction execution.
  • Advanced financial modeling skills, including discounted cash flow, comparable company, precedent transaction, and investment return analyses in a variety of sectors. We see a fair amount of technology and CPG, but also commercial real estate and other sectors.
  • Comfortable with AI tools, such as Claude. Technically capable of using these tools for proprietary process improvement ranging from due diligence to client relationship management.
  • Strong understanding of private-market transaction structures, capitalization tables, and investment documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex investment matters clearly and persuasively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, professional presence, and the ability to establish credibility and trust with clients, executives, and professional advisors.
  • Ability to operate independently in a small, entrepreneurial organization.
  • Bachelor's degree required; concentration in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related discipline preferred. MBA, CFA designation, or other relevant advanced qualifications preferred but not required. Demonstrated transaction experience, investment judgment, and execution capabilities will be weighted more heavily than academic credentials.
Qualifications (Preferred)
  • Experience at a recognized investment bank, private equity firm, growth equity firm, or institutional investment platform.
  • Experience across multiple private-market asset classes.
  • Familiarity with venture capital financing, preferred equity structures, private credit, and complex capitalization tables.
  • Experience working with family offices, high-net-worth investors, or independent investment firms.Established relationships within the private investment ecosystem.
  • Experience developing investment processes, investment committee materials, and transaction workflows.
  • Experience mentoring junior investment professionals or contributing to team development.
The Ideal Candidate

We are particularly interested in an investment professional who has developed strong technical and execution skills within an institutional environment but is interested in a more entrepreneurial role.

The ideal candidate combines rigorous financial analysis with sound investment judgment, strong transaction management capabilities, and the interpersonal confidence to engage directly with clients, founders, senior executives, sponsors, and professional advisors.

This individual should be intellectually curious, commercially minded, personable, and comfortable taking ownership of complex projects. We value sound judgment, clear communication, discretion, and the ability to develop lasting professional relationships.

The role is initially that of a senior individual contributor, with substantial autonomy and direct access to firm leadership. Over time, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to help build and lead Equalient’s investment team as the business grows.

Location and Work Arrangement

Equalient is headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada. The position may be performed remotely within the United States, with an expectation of spending several days per month in our Las Vegas office. Candidates based in the Western United States are preferred to facilitate regular in-person collaboration, although highly qualified candidates from other regions will be considered.
