Job description

Job Overview

Visa is seeking a Vice President, Clearing role to strengthen executive ownership of the most business‑critical, regulator‑visible components of VisaNet. As Visa scales transaction volume, accelerates platform modernization, and embeds GenAI across core systems, the existing operating model requires additional VP‑level accountability to safely drive transformation without compromising stability, accuracy, or trust.

Reporting to the SVP, Clearing, Settlement and Treasury Services within Payment Products Development (PPD), this VP will operate as a true peer to other PPD platform leaders and as a key execution partner to the CTO agenda.

Essential Functions
End‑to‑End Platform Ownership
  • Executive accountability for Clearing platforms that clear, and settle hundreds of millions of transactions daily.
  • Ownership of platform outcomes including financial accuracy, settlement timeliness, resiliency, scalability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Material influence on issuer and acquirer trust, Visa brand integrity, and revenue execution.
GenAI‑Led Platform Transformation
  • Accountability for defining and executing a multi‑year GenAI and automation transformation strategy across Clearing.
  • Responsibility for applying GenAI in ways that materially improve platform quality, operational resilience, and execution speed, including:
    • Predictive incident detection and prevention.
    • Intelligent exception handling and transaction monitoring.
    • Automated reconciliation, controls, and audit readiness.
  • Responsibility for embedding GenAI across the software development lifecycle, including design, engineering, testing, and operations, to materially improve platform quality, operational resilience, and execution speed.
  • Clear ownership of judgment calls on where GenAI meaningfully adds value versus where deterministic, rules‑based approaches must remain.
  • Partnership with Architecture, Risk, Legal, and Controls teams to ensure responsible, explainable, and regulator‑ready AI adoption.
Platform Strategy and Modernization
  • Ownership of multi‑year modernization roadmaps aligned to VisaNet evolution, cloud adoption, and service‑based architectures.
  • Leadership of complex change across deep legacy platforms and modern stacks, with zero tolerance for avoidable operational risk.
  • Strategic input into enterprise architecture, data strategy, and platform standardization decisions that affect VisaNet at scale.
  • Driving the evolution of engineering standards to ensure long‑term scalability and excellence.
Operations, Risk and Regulatory Readiness
  • Accountability for 24x7, always‑on operations with extreme availability and accuracy requirements.
  • Ownership of production readiness, incident management, post‑incident learning, audits, and regulatory engagements.
  • Responsibility for operational, financial, and risk metrics surfaced at Executive Leadership Team, Board, and regulator levels.
People and Leadership
  • Leadership of a large, globally distributed engineering organization spanning multiple time zones.
  • Development of strong succession pipelines, including leaders with deep platform and GenAI fluency.
  • Establishment of a culture centered on ownership, operational discipline, accountability, and responsible innovation.
  • Partner with Product, Platform Architecture, Treasury, Risk, and Operations leaders to deliver end‑to‑end payment processing outcomes.
  • Translate business, regulatory, and risk requirements into clear platform strategies and executable plans.
  • Drive GenAI adoption in ways that are outcome‑focused, measurable, and regulator credible.
  • Lead modernization efforts while actively managing tradeoffs between speed, stability, and operational risk.
  • Act as a senior voice in executive forums, clearly articulating risk, opportunity, and platform tradeoffs.
  • Represent the organization in regulatory discussions, audits, and critical partner engagements as required.
Basic Qualifications
  • 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 10 years of experience with an Advanced degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or at least 8 years of work experience with a PhD.
Preferred Experience
  • 15+ years of software engineering experience, including senior executive leadership roles.
  • Proven experience leading large, globally distributed engineering organizations (100+ engineers).
  • Ownership of mission‑critical, regulator‑visible platforms operating at global scale.
  • Background in payments, financial services, or large‑scale transaction processing platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience driving AI‑enabled or automation‑led transformation in high‑risk operational environments.
  • Hands‑on experience applying GenAI, ML, or advanced analytics in production systems.
  • Strong record of exercising judgment across modernization, financial risk, and regulatory exposure.
  • Experience operating within audit‑intensive, highly regulated environments.
  • History of leading modernization across deeply entrenched legacy platforms.
  • Ability to engage credibly with SVPs, regulators, auditors, and external partners.
