Job summary

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA is seeking a dedicated Recovery Nurse for the Endoscopy, Vascular, Neuro-Interventional & Interventional Radiology unit. The RN will provide comprehensive post-procedure care, monitor recovery, educate patients, and coordinate safe discharge or admission as needed.

Required: Virginia RN license, BLS/ACLS, 1+ year PACU/ICU/ED experience; preferred BSN and EPIC EMR proficiency. Full-time schedule with rotating shifts and weekend call.

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Virginia
• BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA-approved)
• At least 1 year of experience in PACU, ICU, ED, or procedural recovery nursing
• Preferred: BSN and EPIC EMR proficiency

Responsibilities

• Receive post-procedural patients and perform focused recovery assessments including vital signs, neuro checks, and site monitoring
• Monitor for complications such as bleeding, hemodynamic instability, or adverse reactions to sedation/anesthesia
• Manage pain, nausea, and other immediate recovery needs with physician-directed interventions
• Provide discharge instructions and education tailored to the patient’s procedure and condition
• Document all recovery findings and nursing care in EPIC
• Facilitate safe and timely discharge or admission based on patient status

Position Summary:

The Preoperative & Recovery Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in the care of patients undergoing gastroenterology, pulmonary, vascular, neuro-interventional, and interventional radiology procedures at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. This nurse provides comprehensive post-procedure care, ensuring safe, high-quality outcomes through thorough assessments, clinical preparation, vigilant recovery monitoring, and patient education.

Schedule:

Shifts:Rotating shifts within unit hours of0800 to 2100, Monday through Friday

Call Requirement:One weekend every 7–8 weeks,0730–1500

Key Responsibilities:

Receive post-procedural patients and perform focused recovery assessments including vital signs, neuro checks, and site monitoring.

Required:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Experience in Interventional Radiology, Endoscopy or procedural prep/recovery

EPIC EMR proficiency
