Qualifications

• Current RN license in the state of Virginia is required.
• BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA-approved) are required.
• At least 1 year of experience in PACU, ICU, ED, or procedural recovery nursing.

Responsibilities

• Receive post-procedural patients and perform focused recovery assessments including vital signs, neuro checks, and site monitoring.
• Monitor for complications such as bleeding, hemodynamic instability, or adverse reactions to sedation/anesthesia.
• Manage pain, nausea, and other immediate recovery needs with physician-directed interventions.
• Provide discharge instructions and education tailored to the patient’s procedure and condition.
• Document all recovery findings and nursing care in EPIC.
• Facilitate safe and timely discharge or admission based on patient status.

Position Summary

The Preoperative & Recovery Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in the care of patients undergoing gastroenterology, pulmonary, vascular, neuro-interventional, and interventional radiology procedures at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. This nurse provides comprehensive post-procedure care, ensuring safe, high-quality outcomes through thorough assessments, clinical preparation, vigilant recovery monitoring, and patient education.

Schedule

Shifts: Rotating shifts within unit hours of 0800 to 2100, Monday through Friday.

Call Requirement: One weekend every 7–8 weeks, 0730–1500.

Key Responsibilities
