Job summary

Sentara Health Plans seeks a dedicated Preoperative & Recovery Nurse (RN) for Sentara Norfolk General Hospital's Vascular and Interventional Center. You will provide comprehensive post-procedure care for gastroenterology, pulmonary, vascular, neuro-interventional and interventional radiology patients, with accurate assessments and patient education.

Shifts run 0800–2100, Monday–Friday, with weekend call every 7–8 weeks; 1-year PACU/ICU/ED experience preferred and BSN preferred for advancement.

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Virginia required/active
• BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA-approved) required
• 1+ year of experience in PACU, ICU, ED, or procedural recovery nursing preferred

Responsibilities

• Receive post-procedural patients and perform focused recovery assessments including vital signs and neuro checks
• Monitor for complications such as bleeding or sedation-related issues and implement physician-directed interventions
• Provide discharge instructions and education tailored to the procedure
• Document recovery findings in EPIC and assist with discharge decisions

Position Summary: The Preoperative & Recovery Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in the care of patients undergoing gastroenterology, pulmonary, vascular, neuro-interventional, and interventional radiology procedures at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. This nurse provides comprehensive post-procedure care, ensuring safe, high-quality outcomes through thorough assessments, clinical preparation, vigilant recovery monitoring, and patient education.

Schedule: Shifts: Rotating shifts within unit hours of 0800 to 2100, Monday through Friday Call Requirement: One weekend every 7–8 weeks, 0730–1500

Key Responsibilities: Receive post-procedural patients and perform focused recovery assessments including vital signs, neuro checks, and site monitoring. Monitor for complications such as bleeding, hemodynamic instability, or adverse reactions to sedation/anesthesia. Manage pain, nausea, and other immediate recovery needs with physician-directed interventions. Provide discharge instructions and education tailored to the patient’s procedure and condition. Document all recovery findings and nursing care in EPIC. Facilitate safe and timely discharge or admission based on patient status.

Required: Current RN license in the state of Virginia BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA-approved) At least 1 year of experience in PACU, ICU, ED, or procedural recovery nursing

Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Experience in Interventional Radiology, Endoscopy or procedural prep/recovery EPIC EMR proficiency .
