Job description

ACCESS Specialty Animal Hospital (Woodland Hills) is seeking a Veterinary Technician Department Supervisor to join our growing Emergency Team!

We are a progressive ER/Specialty hospital experiencing rapid growth, and we are looking to welcome new team members to join us in our mission of providing quality care to our patients in our state-of-the-art facility!

Working side by side with the technical team, this role is designed to elevate and support the technicians and technician assistants in the Emergency Department. The primary purpose of this role will be to organize, facilitate, and ensure that training is provided to the technical team to ensure our patients receive the highest standard of care. Additionally, this role will work in partnership with hospital management to facilitate performance reviews, coaching conversations, and achieve department metric goals.

Pay Range: $25/hr to $40/hr + overnight, weekend, and department lead differentials - rate to be determined upon experience/skills assessment. *Relocation assistance available for qualified candidates*

While your day-to-day tasks may vary, some responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):

  1. Supports current training objectives.
  2. Supervises the daily activities of the emergency department and provides support to ensure hospital efficiency.
  3. Provides continuous feedback and strives to improve the performance and work experience of the team.
  4. Creates an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture.
  5. Works proactively and cooperatively with shift supervisors/Department Leads/Emergency Technician Manager/MD to ensure effective teamwork.
  6. Prioritizes client experience/communication and coaches team members on this.
  7. First point of contact for Doctor and CCR team to determine next steps for client complaints arising from their department.
  8. Reviews medical issues within the department and addresses them satisfactorily in partnership with the Emergency Technician Manager.
  9. Collaborates with management on interviews and skill assessments for potential new technical team members.
  10. Schedules technical team to maximize coverage and minimize overtime, recognizing caseload needs, including coverage of technical responsibilities and approval of time off requests.
  11. Provides additional support to administration and adjusts schedules as needed for the benefit of the department.
  12. Works with other department leads to ensure controlled substance use is compliant with company policies, audits are completed regularly, and inventory discrepancies are resolved routinely.

Our ideal candidates will have:

  • 2+ years of previous Lead veterinary technician experience, preferably within Emergency and Specialty.
  • RVT license preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills and a commitment to teamwork.
  • Dedicated to providing the highest level of patient care.
  • An Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program preferred; or equivalent education, training, and experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
