Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Monterey, CA is hiring an experienced Relief Licensed Veterinary Technician to support our busy Emergency department.

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will assist with anesthesia, triage, radiography, patient monitoring, and critical care, while mentoring teammates and ensuring the highest level of care for pets and comfort for their owners.

Qualifications

• Licensed Veterinary Technician in good standing and eligible to work in the U.S.
• Emergency/critical care experience preferred for fast-paced environment.
• Ability to communicate with clients and team under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia using appropriate equipment.
• Triage emergencies and monitor vitals (temp, pulse, respiration, BP).
• Perform digital radiography with proper patient positioning and technique.
• Manage CPR and identify patients at risk requiring intervention.

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring experienced Relief Licensed Veterinary Technicians to work in our busy Emergency department in Monterey, CA!

APCA I - LVT IV Pay: $24.28 - $49.19

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through the Kahuna leveling system.

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.

• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.

• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.

Our Continuing Education Plan includes $500/year reimbursement for CVT and $750/year for VTS. The Continuing Education allowance can roll over up to $1,500 for CVT and VTS associates. Non-Credentialed, full-time Paraprofessionals are eligible for an annual CE stipend of $150. Full-time CVT associates also receive 8 hours of CE paid hours each year. Full-time VTS associates receive 12 hours of CE paid each year. Paid CE hours can be carried over year to year up to a maximum of 24 hours. Newly hired associates will receive a pro-rated amount of any CE benefit for which they are eligible.
