Location: Red Bank, NJ | Non‑Credentialed $24–$32/hr. | Credentialed CVT/RVT/LVT $27–$37/hr.

Compensation
  • Credentialed technicians: $27–$37/hr, based on experience.

Job Description

The Inpatient Technician’s primary responsibility is to provide care for hospitalized patients deemed stable by the veterinarian’s evaluation and RBVH’s defined levels of hospitalization. The Technician assesses patients and facilitates treatments under the supervising veterinarian, maintaining excellent communication and addressing concerns as they arise. The Technician works with doctors, technicians, and assistants to perform diagnostics and execute treatment plans for the hospitalized patient.

Responsibilities
  • Basic husbandry and care for domestic and exotic patients
  • Monitor patient status: vitals, mentation, pain score
  • Nursing procedures: phlebotomy, IVC/IVF therapy, cystocentesis, urinary catheter care, medication administration (oral, topical, injectable), restraint, inpatient and outpatient care, abdominocentesis, thoracocentesis, pericardiocentesis, oxygen cage operation, transfusion therapy, PICC line care, recumbent patient care, feeding and sampling line care
  • Triage, sedation/anesthesia monitoring, recognize CPA & initiate CPR
Medical Knowledge
  • Disease processes and disinfection protocols
  • Basic anatomy, physiology, pharmacology (Cubex use, common medications)
  • Medical math, lab skills (basic bloodwork, lab submissions), radiograph positioning, medical terminology
Technical & Administrative Skills
  • Record keeping, equipment operation, stocking and cleaning, aftercare
  • Knowledge and adherence to hospital policies
Qualifications
  • LVT, CVT, or RVT credential preferred
  • Three years of experience working as a Veterinary Technician in a veterinary hospital
  • Previous experience in an emergency or specialty veterinary hospital preferred
  • Proficiency with computers, electronic medical records, and data entry
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced emergency and critical care environment
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
  • RECOVER CPR certification a plus
  • Experience managing critically ill and hospitalized patients preferred
