Job Description

The Veterinary Technician II, under general supervision, monitors animal health, administers treatments, and assists the veterinarian/professional staff as part of the daily care of animals maintained at the PVAMU farm. Provides assistance as needed to the professional staff and maintains a sanitary and well-organized service within the animal treatment and veterinary supply areas associated with the PVAMU farm.

Responsibilities
  1. Monitor animal health through daily observations, document findings, assist with clinical procedures, and maintain medical records.
  2. Obtain vital signs, assist with surgeries, and prepare animals for procedures, supporting anesthesia and recovery monitoring.
  3. Participate in research projects, train new staff, and contribute to educational and extension programs.
  4. Support college-wide events and perform additional duties as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Two years of clinical veterinary experience, including large or mixed animals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Four years of veterinary practice experience.
  • Licensure as a Veterinary Technician in Texas.
  • Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs, work in physically demanding environments, and handle livestock with proper restraint and medication techniques.
Additional Requirements
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
