Job summary

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) seeks a Veterinary Technician I to provide daily care for research animals and assist with projects under the PI or supervisor.

The position supports USU DLAR and requires flexibility for evenings, weekends, and after-hours as needed. Responsibilities include animal health rounds, treatments, data collection, enrichment, anesthesia and surgery support, and maintaining health records.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 0-2 years experience.
• Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques.
• Experience handling and working with various laboratory animals (to include nonhuman primates).
• Ability to follow detailed instructions.
• Good communication and analytical skills.
• Familiarity with GLP desirable.
• Must be proficient at using software tools such as Google Suite, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel to maintain, create or modify departmental forms or obtain information.
• Must comply with the Institute's occupational health and safety requirements and be able to perform work while wearing PPE.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust background check.

Responsibilities

• Performs animal health rounds, administration of treatments as prescribed, provides enrichment, collection of biological samples, and supports procedures.
• Collects and organizes animal-related data, monitors morbidity, and observes experiments daily.
• Maintains animal health records and electronic database.
• Oversees breeding and reproduction of animals and performs basic husbandry tasks.
• Trains staff in animal handling, restraint, medication administration, sample collection, and euthanasia.
• Availability for occasional evenings, after-hours shifts, and weekends.
• Attends required training and participates in duties as assigned.
