Job summary

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. seeks a Veterinary Technician I to provide daily care of research animals and assist with projects as directed by the Principal Investigator or supervisor.

This is the first level of three Veterinary Technician positions. Responsibilities include animal health rounds, treatments, enrichment, sample collection, anesthesia and surgery support, data recording, breeding oversight, and training staff.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• 0-2 years experience.
• Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques.
• Experience handling and working with laboratory animals (incl. nonhuman primates).
• Ability to follow detailed instructions.
• Proficient with Google Suite, Word, and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Performs animal care and research-related procedures under supervision.
• Conducts animal health rounds and administers treatments.
• Provides enrichment and collects samples for processing.
• Assists with irradiation loading and monitors animals’ health and environment.
• Trains staff in animal handling, restraint, and sample collection.
• Available for evenings, after-hours, and weekends as needed.
