Job summary

NAMSA is seeking a Veterinary Technician to monitor animals during the immediate post-operative recovery, perform essential clinical tasks, and support surgical prep and recovery processes. The role includes anesthesia-related responsibilities, wound care, and medication administration in a controlled environment.

The ideal candidate has a CVT/ALAT certification (preferred) and a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline or AS in Veterinary Technology.

Qualifications

• CVT/ALAT certification preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in scientific discipline or Associate of Science in Veterinary Technology required.

Responsibilities

• Monitors animals during the initial post-operative recovery phase, performing TPRs and auscultation, assesses pain, changes dressings, and administers medications.
• Prepares animals for surgery including anesthesia calculations, sedation/induction, intubation, IV access, anesthesia monitoring, and site prep.
• Documents physiological data during prep and recovery, medication administration, and related paperwork.
• Dispenses medications as prescribed by veterinarian or protocol.
• Collects lab samples (blood, fecal, urine) as needed and processes them.
• Communicates veterinary status and recovery progress with staff and study directors.
• Operates, cleans, and maintains anesthesia machines, autoclave, and surgical equipment.
• Maintains clean, organized surgical prep and recovery areas and handles other duties as assigned.
