Job summary

Athens Animal Clinic, part of Heartland Veterinary Partners LLC, seeks a Veterinary Technician to assist veterinarians and staff with patient care, monitor hospitalized pets, maintain inventory, and perform routine in-house lab work.

You will educate clients, assist with surgeries, obtain samples, radiographs, and manage multiple patients while upholding high standards of care and compassion. Weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

• Ability to work on weekends as required.
• Previous veterinary experience preferred.
• Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; assist with heavier lifts.
• Practice OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE.
• Basic math and dosage calculations.
• Basic computer skills (MS Office, etc.).
• Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in medicine and surgery and other tasks as needed.
• Take histories, vitals, and weights during outpatient exams and educate clients.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor during surgery.
• Obtain samples and perform in-hospital lab work; prepare specimens for outside labs.
• Take and develop radiographs following safety procedures.
• Handle and restrain animals during exams as needed.
• Administer medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments as directed.
• Maintain exam rooms and labs, restock supplies, and keep areas clean.
• Demonstrate warmth, courtesy, and professionalism with clients and patients.
• Communicate with veterinarians and team members; discuss patient plans and concerns.
• Other duties as assigned.
