Job summary

Advanced Veterinary Care in Orlando, FL, is seeking a Surgical Veterinary Technician to support urgent care and specialty services. You will work closely with surgeons, provide nursing care, and help prepare patients for procedures in a fast-paced hospital environment.

The role requires prior veterinary experience, strong anesthesia skills, and the ability to perform imaging and lab tasks. We offer competitive benefits, on-site work, ongoing professional development, and a collaborative team

Qualifications

  • Prior veterinary experience is required and preferred in specialty/referral settings.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Proficient in drug calculation and anesthesia preparation.
  • Comfortable with phlebotomy and IV catheter placement.
  • Experience with imaging and lab work is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care and support under surgeon guidance.
  • Develop anesthetic protocols and post-operative plans.
  • Prepare patients for surgery, including clipping and positioning.
  • Intubate and monitor patients under general anesthesia.
  • Perform diagnostic imaging (digital radiographs, CT scans).
  • Maintain sterile technique and assist with instrument care.

Specialty Technician Job Purpose:
  • Increase efficiency of the doctor staff by providing care and support to patients, clients, and hospital staff.
  • Provide excellent medical support and compassionate care for patients and clients.
  • Act as a point of communication between clients and internal hospital staff regarding the status of patients in hospital.
As a Surgery Veterinary Technician, you will:
  • Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
  • Review medical records, develop anesthetic protocol and develop post operative treatment plan with our surgeon and discharge patients.
  • Prepare patients for surgery including clipping, prepping and positioning for surgery.
  • Intubating and monitoring of patients under general anesthesia.
  • Perform diagnostic imaging including digital radiographs, CT scans and digital cytology.
  • Basic knowledge of surgical packs, sterilization protocols and instrumentation.
Expectations / Requirements
  • Prior veterinary experience is required. Previous experience working in a specialty/referral hospital preferred.
  • Proficient in drug calculation and strong anesthetic skills.
  • The candidate should be confident with phlebotomy, placing iv catheters, nasogastric tubes, radiographs, processing in house labs.
  • The ideal candidate should be comfortable with standard anesthetic protocols, induction, maintenance, and monitoring of anesthesia.
  • Display competency in general knowledge and nursing skills required to care for patients.
  • As necessary, help with cleaning the procedure room, instruments and the setting up and breakdown of the procedure room.
  • Must be comfortable to work on their feet, able to keel, bend to work with surgery patients. Adequate breaks will be provided (however will have times of being on your feet at times).
  • Applicant should be able to lift patients and inventory up to 40 pounds.
  • There will some on‑call responsibilities, however we do offer a competitive incentive for both being on call and when called in.
