Portland Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Care PVESC is seeking a Practice Manager to lead daily hospital operations at our Warren Avenue location in Portland, ME. You will oversee staffing, scheduling, and workflow while driving a culture of collaboration and excellence.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of leadership or management experience in veterinary medicine.
  • 5 years as a licensed or certified technician working in a veterinary hospital.
  • Experience in veterinary urgent care, emergency, or specialty medicine is preferred.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through change while maintaining a positive team culture.
  • Experience leading teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Financial management experience including budgets and operational metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily hospital operations including staffing, scheduling, and workflow optimization.
  • Coach, mentor, and support veterinary technicians, client service representatives, and support staff.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and engagement.
  • Create an environment where team members feel supported, valued, and empowered to grow.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and ongoing team development.
  • Partner with Operations Director and Medical Director to achieve operational and financial goals.
  • Monitor KPIs and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and hospital performance.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure exceptional client service and patient care standards are maintained.
  • Resolve client concerns with professionalism and empathy.

Schedule

This is a full time position 40 45 hoursweekSchedule will initially include a combination of daytime evening and weekend hoursAs the practice grows and our hours expand this schedule may be adjusted to meet hospital needsThe Practice Manager will be expected to maintain a flexible schedule to support patient care hospital operations and business needs as our practice evolves
