Job summary

The University of Minnesota's Laboratory for Udder Health (LUH) is seeking a detail-oriented laboratory assistant to support diagnostic and production activities. The role involves microbiological testing, media preparation, and QA processes to deliver accurate, timely results for animal health and client needs.

Responsibilities include testing, sample prep, instrument maintenance, and documentation in LIMS, with emphasis on safety, quality, and collaborative teamwork in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience to meet four years.

Responsibilities

• Perform microbiological testing per established protocols.
• Prepare samples for diagnostic testing, interpret results, and document in LIMS.
• Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory instruments for reliable performance.
• Respond to Oceasoft alerts, investigate issues, and ensure timely resolution.
• Provide responsive client service via calls and emails.
• Assist with inventory management and routine lab supplies.
• Follow lab safety, biosafety, and regulatory SOPs.
• Conduct daily QC on prepared media and record-keeping.
• Assist with drafting/revising SOPs and implement new diagnostic tests.
• Identify improvements and troubleshoot procedures as needed.
