Job summary

Petco is seeking a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine to join our Vetco Total Care hospital team. You will provide comprehensive patient care, perform surgeries and dental procedures, develop treatment plans, and collaborate with referral centers as needed.

The role emphasizes leadership, teamwork, and high-quality pet care in a busy hospital setting. Requirements include an AVMA-accredited DVM, active state licensure (or eligibility), and DEA license; USDA accreditation is desirable.

Qualifications

• DVM degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.
• Active licensure as a veterinarian in the state where the hospital is located (or eligible by start date).
• Current DEA license.
• Current Controlled Substance License, if applicable, in state of location.
• USDA Category I (minimum) Accreditation or completion within two months of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent patient care by performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and providing preventive care.
• Develop treatment plans based on problem-based assessment and coordinate with referral hospitals as needed.
• Document all patient observations and treatments in the medical record.
• Perform routine and complex surgical procedures such as spays/neuters and mass removals.
• Perform routine and complex dental procedures including examining, radiographs, extractions, and oral surgery.
• Lead the hospital team as a de facto leader in the hospital and participate in rounds.
