Job summary

Violet Crown Veterinary Specialists in Austin, Bee Cave, is seeking a compassionate Technician Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians in daily hospital operations. You will help with animal handling, patient care, medication preparation, and maintaining a clean, safe environment.

This role emphasizes teamwork, meticulous record keeping, and clear communication with clients. Training is available, and the position may include evening or weekend shifts to ensure 24/7 patient coverage.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and technicians with animal handling.
• Provide general care to hospitalized animals (feeding, bathing, monitoring).
• Prepare and assist with medications, lab samples, and other clinical tasks.
• Support emergency cases and patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and visits.
• Clean and disinfect exam rooms, kennels, surgical areas; maintain sanitary environment.
• Restock supplies and maintain clean, functional equipment.
• Perform accurate record keeping, data entry, and communicate updates to staff.
• Deliver compassionate service and support to pet owners.
• Adhere to hospital safety and infection-control protocols.

Violet Crown Veterinary Specialists (VCVS) is Austin’s only privately owned specialty and emergency animal hospital. Position Overview

• Assist veterinarians and technicians with animal handling, restraint, and clinical proceduresProvide general care to hospitalized animals, including feeding, bathing, and monitoring behavior or condition changes
• Prepare and assist with medications, lab samples, and other clinical tasks as directed
• Support emergency cases and assist with patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and visits
• Clean and disinfect exam rooms, kennels, surgical areas, and ensure a sanitary and comfortable environment
• Restock supplies and maintain clean, functional equipment
• Perform accurate record keeping, data entry, and communicate patient updates to veterinary staff
• Deliver compassionate service and emotional support to pet owners
• Adhere to hospital safety and infection control protocols
• Foster excellent working relationships across departments

Physical and Working Requirements

• Regularly stand and walk for extended periods.
• Frequently bend, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, scrub, sweep, vacuum, and mop.
• Routinely lift and carry up to 40 pounds and assist with heavier animals, supplies, or equipment using appropriate support.
• Work around barking animals, bodily fluids, animal waste, cleaning chemicals, infectious materials, and emotionally sensitive situations.
• Safely use gloves, gowns, masks, eye protection, and other personal protective equipment when required.
• Work may occur during evenings, overnight hours, weekends, holidays, or while parts of the hospital remain actively operational.
