About the Externship

West Milwaukee Veterinary Care offers up to a $2,000 travel stipend for all clinical year externs. An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. This hospital provides a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gather patient histories, perform physical exams, create treatment plans, and complete diagnostics.
• Assist in dentistry services, observe or assist surgical procedures, and manage medication for patients.
• Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
• Participate in an externship lasting two to eight weeks, depending on schedule.

Stipend

Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend, with a maximum of $2,000. For details, refer to the NVA stipend program.
