Job summary

National Veterinary Associates offers externship experiences for veterinary students at their hospitals in Forest Hills, Kentucky. Students will collaborate with veterinarians, assist in diagnostics, perform examinations, and participate in patient care. The externships provide a stipend of $500 to assist with living or travel expenses. Eligible students can take part regardless of their year in the veterinary program. Job description

Externship Experience

An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers veterinary students the unique opportunity to learn day‑to‑day operations of a practice and gain hands‑on clinical experience. NVA hospitals share a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a focus on exceptional service to animals and their owners. Externships typically last from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules, and are open to all veterinary students regardless of class year.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with a supervising veterinarian to gather patient histories, perform physical examinations, and establish treatment plans.
• Assist with diagnostics, dentistry services, and observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures.
• Participate in medical management of patients and practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Travel/Living Expense Stipend

Eligible veterinary students receive a travel or living expense stipend of $500.
