An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers veterinary students the unique opportunity to learn day‑to‑day operations of a practice and gain hands‑on clinical experience. NVA hospitals share a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a focus on exceptional service to animals and their owners. Externships typically last from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules, and are open to all veterinary students regardless of class year.
Eligible veterinary students receive a travel or living expense stipend of $500.

For positions based in Colorado, employees are also eligible for paid sick, safe leave, and public health emergency leave in accordance with Colorado law.
