Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Recopilar historiales de pacientes y realizar exámenes físicos.
• Participar en la creación de planes de tratamiento.

• Asistir o realizar procedimientos quirúrgicos seleccionados bajo supervisión.
• Gestionar pacientes médicamente con seguimiento.
• Comunicar información del paciente al equipo médico.

Job description

An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides veterinary students with hands‑on clinical exposure in a supportive and client‑focused environment.

Responsibilities

• Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
• Participate in the creation of treatment plans and the use of diagnostics.
• Assist in dental services and observe surgical procedures.
• Assist or perform selected surgical procedures under supervision.
• Manage patients medically with follow‑up care.
• Communicate patient information to the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Externships typically last between two and eight weeks, scheduled to align with the student's and hospital's calendars.

Eligibility

Externships at McClintock Animal Care Center are designed for third‑ and fourth‑year veterinary students. Students in their clinical portion of education who meet eligibility requirements may receive a travel and living‑expense stipend.
