Job summary

Abqpetcarehospital offers an externship opportunity for veterinary students to gain hands-on clinical experience. The externship duration ranges from two to eight weeks, where students gather patient histories, perform medical exams, and practice communication skills with the medical team.

Job description

Overview

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give veterinary students the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. All NVA hospitals share a supportive environment that is committed to excellent medicine and provides exceptional service to animals and their owners.

Responsibilities

• Gather patient histories and perform physical exams.
• Create treatment plans and conduct diagnostics, dentistry services, observe/assist or perform surgical procedures, and manage medical care of patients.
• Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Externals Duration & Eligibility

Externship experiences range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate. These externships are available through Veterinary Associates.
