National Veterinary Associates is offering externship opportunities for veterinary students at the Spanaway Veterinary Clinic. This program provides hands-on clinical experience, mentorship from qualified veterinarians, and a chance to enhance communication skills in a supportive environment focused on delivering exceptional care for animals. Externships typically range from two to eight weeks, catering to students' schedules and academic needs.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share common features: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a focus on providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations at Spanaway Veterinary Clinic typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view the stipend amounts and HERE for more details.
