Boost your interview chances
Join a leading global pet care organization as an extern at NVA hospitals. This externship offers an immersive experience for 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students, where you'll gain hands-on clinical skills in a busy practice setting. Duration ranges from two to eight weeks, with mentorship opportunities and stipends available to support your learning and living expenses.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers veterinary students a valuable opportunity to understand the daily operations of a veterinary practice and gain hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital has its unique aspects, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.
The hospital handles a variety of cases, from wellness checks to injury and illness visits. Procedures include spays, neuters, mass removals, soft tissue surgeries, and dental work. As a walk-in clinic with a busy schedule, we manage a large volume and variety of cases.
Externs will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in collecting patient histories, performing physical exams, developing treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, assisting or performing surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Additionally, they will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. These externships are designed for 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students.
Eligible veterinary students participating in the clinical portion of their education may receive a travel and living expense stipend. For more details, please see the stipend amounts HERE and the stipend program details HERE.
