National Veterinary Associates is offering externship opportunities for DVM students at their hospitals across the U.S. Participants will gain vital hands-on clinical experience, working alongside experienced veterinarians while focusing on skills such as patient care, diagnostics, and communication. This is a unique chance to be part of a dedicated pet care organization committed to empowering veterinary professionals.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they all share common features: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a focus on providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising DVMs to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All DVM students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
DVM students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel and living expense stipend. Please click here to view the stipend amounts and details about the stipend program.
