Join National Veterinary Associates as an extern at Cedarwood Veterinary Clinic in Santa Fe, NM, and gain hands-on experience in veterinary medicine. This opportunity is designed for 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students eager to work closely with experienced veterinarians while participating in daily practice operations.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a valuable opportunity to understand the daily operations of a veterinary practice and gain hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they share common qualities: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a focus on providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Cedarwood Veterinary Clinic, a small and close-knit practice, has served Santa Fe and its loyal clients for nearly 30 years. Dr. Mark Terry specializes in small animal medicine, including dental procedures, spays, neuters, and mass removals. He has a particular interest in radiology and ultrasound and moderates the radiology forums on VIN.
Externs will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, assisting or performing surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externships at Cedarwood Veterinary Clinic are designed for 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Students in the clinical portion of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view the stipend amounts and HERE for details on the stipend program.
