National Veterinary Associates externship offers veterinary students a hands-on experience to understand day-to-day operations and clinical care under supervision of Associate Veterinarians. Participants gain experience in histories, exams, treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, and surgical observation.

An externship experience at any National Veterinary Associates hospital provides veterinary students with the opportunity to understand day‑to‑day operations and gain hands‑on clinical experience. Students work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to develop skills in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient care.
Externship periods typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules.
All veterinary students, regardless of class year, who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible to apply and may receive a travel/living expense stipend.
