Job summary

Job description

Overview

An externship experience at an NVA hospital gives veterinary students the opportunity to understand day‑to‑day operations and gain valuable clinical experience. Students work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to perform patient histories, physical exams, treatment planning, diagnostics, dentistry services, observe, assist or perform surgical procedures, and manage medical care of patients. In addition, externs practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Eligibility and Stipend

All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate. Students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
