National Veterinary Associates offers externship opportunities at its hospitals for 3rd and 4th year veterinary students. This experience allows students to gain hands-on clinical skills in a supportive environment, work closely with experienced veterinarians, and potentially receive a stipend for living expenses.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a valuable opportunity to understand the daily operations of veterinary practice and gain practical clinical skills. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. At Frontier Village Veterinary Clinic, externships are designed for 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
