National Veterinary Associates is offering an externship for veterinary students to gain hands-on experience within their hospitals. Participants will work closely with veterinarians to learn essential clinical skills, enhance patient management abilities, and develop effective communication strategies in a supportive and innovative environment. The externship lasts between two and eight weeks, allowing students to immerse themselves in different operational aspects of veterinary care while contributing to animal well-being.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view the stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
