National Veterinary Associates offers veterinary students a valuable externship experience, focusing on hands-on clinical skills in a supportive environment. During this externship, students will gain practical insights into daily operations and direct patient care, enhancing both their medical and communication abilities.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share common qualities: a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to clinical skills, externs will have opportunities to practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations at Atlantic Animal Hospital typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
