About the Clinic

East End Veterinary Medical Centre is a growing multi‑doctor, small animal practice located in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh. The clinic offers a wide range of services, including dental procedures, surgeries five days a week, and same‑day urgent care appointments.

Externship Overview

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in the following areas:

• Gathering patient histories
• Performing physical exams
• Creating treatment plans
• Diagnostics
• Dental services
• Observing, assisting or performing surgical procedures
• Medical management of patients
• Communication with the medical team, support staff, and clients

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules.

Eligibility and Stipend

Externships are offered to 4th year veterinary students only, who are in the clinical portion of their education. Eligible students receive a travel and living expense stipend. For more details, please contact the program coordinator.
