Job summary

East Suburban Animal Clinic is a 5+ doctor small animal practice inviting veterinary externs to gain hands-on experience under supervision. The program emphasizes supportive care, dentistry, ultrasound, and nutrition, with opportunities to learn through patient histories, exams, and treatment planning.

Externs will collaborate with the veterinary team, assist with or observe surgeries, dentistry, and medical management, and will develop communication skills with clients and staff.

Qualifications

• Vet student in their clinical year seeking externship experience.
• Gain experience gathering histories, performing exams, creating treatment plans, and managing patients.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with supervising veterinarian to gain hands-on experience.
• Perform or assist with dentistry services, diagnostics, and surgical observations.

Description & Requirements

East Suburban Animal Clinic is a 5+ doctor small animal practice that loves to share our knowledge and experience with the younger generation coming up. We have a terrific culture and emphasize supportive and exceptional care. Our interests include dentistry. ultrasound, and nutrition. We like to give back.

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules.Externships at East Suburban Animal Clinic are available to students in their final clinical year of veterinary school.

Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
