National Veterinary Associates offers an externship for veterinary students to gain hands-on clinical experience in a supportive environment. Students will engage directly with patients under supervision, enhancing their skills in examinations, treatment plans, and other clinical responsibilities over a 2 to 8 week period.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of a veterinary practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. Each NVA hospital is unique, but all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Additionally, externs will have the opportunity to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. These externships are designed for clinical year veterinary students.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
